Cathedral·Kaptol

The twin spires

About Zagreb Cathedral

The cathedral has stood on Kaptol, the old church town, since the Middle Ages, and after an earthquake in 1880 it was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style by Hermann Bollé, with the twin spires that became the symbol of Zagreb. Another earthquake, in March 2020, damaged the building again, and restoration is still under way, so parts may be closed. Even from outside, with the golden Virgin Mary column in front, it is a sight not to miss.
